At the edge of this palm fringed beach at Punaluu is a quiet pond…everyone is at the beach enjoying the hot black sand and looking for basking sea turtles.
But I am more drawn to this beautiful pond filled with purplewater lilly blossoms which are blooming profusely everywhere, I’m tempted to wade in and pluck one out.
Their flowers and leaves are floating effortlessly on the water and palm shadows fall into the water creating rippled abstracts of their blowing leaves…very hypnotic.
I walk around the pond and cross two small bridges connecting various parts and see different scenes unfold with pictures framed in many shades of green.
I love exploring areas that are obviously in slow decay and just waiting for someone to rediscover the beauty of its hidden charms, just like this little pond.
I’m glad a took a moment to explore this and enjoy her little flowered treasures, it was just what I was looking for at the beach….not quite what anyone expected.

Oh, Noel, that is an amazing place! I can hardly imagine it's not popular -- but all the more beautiful for being so still and quiet and undiscovered. Lotuses are so lovely. :)

How beautiful and serene looking. Is the pond made up of trapped seawater? Meaning is it salt water, or fresh? I wouldn't expect the lotus would do well in very salty water, but then again, I've never grown lotus.

Aloha Noel, everything in Hawaii is beautiful. I remember, even the flowing lava is beautiful too! But i specifically love your framing the reflections. I envy you for that environment. BTW, that word "mahalo", my friend said dont mistake it to mean "trash can", haha!

It looks so serene there and such a vast difference to where i am in the UK. To see tropical plants like that we have to pay a small fortune to visit a bio-dome!!

Dendrobium orchid has to be repotted in spring after blooming, once every other year. Choose the potting mix according to the pot size and plant size. For a small plant use grade fir bark, while for a plant bigger than 6’’ choose medium grade bark. You can also use long-fibered sphagnum moss.
