Fresh Leis for Aloha Friday

You've never smelled anything so intoxicating and sweet as a flower stand in Hawaii during the Merrie Monarch Festival.  Its almost impossible to not stop by these amazing display's of color and dazzling combinations of leis on display.

Then you get hit with hints of exotic smells of plumeria, ginger and unusual fragrances that draw you in and welcome you....you must stop and look at these leis and see the loving hands that crafted each and everyone on of them.

You need to see and smell almost everyone before you decide which one will be perfect...
not an easy decision.

How about something exotic and blue like this blue lei made with many petals of the
blue jade vine, a rare beauty only to be seen at this beautiful festival of aloha.

Yes to receive a lei from someone special is a wonderful gift...but giving one away is even more true with the meaning of lei giving and sharing your aloha.

Oh Noel, those are gorgeous. Now, if you can just figure out a way to transmit their smell via the internet.

Buttercup and I are in awe of those luscious flowers. Your photos were so fantastic, I kept wondering why I couldn't smell the flowers and pick up a lei.

Oh, how beautiful, Noel! I can almost smell their exotic fragrances from here... I want the orange and red and white one, I think, although that jade blue one is incredible. :)

Greetings Noel, How I should love to receive a lei, so very, very pretty, exotic and perfumed too. What more could anyone ask for?

Have a very happy weekend.

that jade vine lei is amazing! Jade vine happens to be closely related to the sea bean I sprouted a couple years ago.

The leis are just beautiful, what an art! I've never been to Hawaii, but leis are one of the first things I associate with it. This was such an interesting and beautiful post.

They're beautiful.

Out of curiosity, what does something like that cost? I'm looking at the materials and all the hand-work, and imagining a high price for such an ephemeral thing.

We saw leis in a river, and then saw some notes indicating that they were part of a memorial service.

OMG, those are gorgeous. Such a personal touch knowing they are put together by hand. Matti

Hi Noel, i am back. I just would like to say that the jade vine is endemic to the Philippines. I dont know who carried it to Hawaii, maybe the Ilocanos who migrated in bulk, no offense meant, hahaha. I also love to see the Pinoy houses there, which cannot be ignored, because they have a malunggay tree at the corner of the property, a big reveal.
